Dafen Lisa, is one of the works of Shenzhen exhibition hall of Expo 2010. It’s a picture of Mona Lisa, pieced together by 999 handmade oil paintings that are painted by 500 painters in Dafen village. This giant oil painting is one of the highlights of Expo 2010,amazing people all over the world. Created a work like this, artists aimed to let Dafen Lisa to introduce Dafen to the world.

Li Jiyong, an artist of Dafen village said, Dafen Lisa is one and the only one in the history of art. Only in Dafen village there are so many skillful artists can fulfill a task like this. The accomplishment of Dafen Lisa is actually a self-approval of Dafen village.

Dafen village locates in Buji town, Longgang district, Shenzhen, China. It’s a small village having only 300 villagers. However, it gathers many painters all parts of the country there. Oil paintings painted by them command a ready market in European countries and America. Because of this, Dafen village becomes the world-wide known oil painting village. Dafen village adjoins Hong Kong. The transportations here are very convenient. In the late 80’s of the 20th century, a businessman of paintings from Hong Kong came here, and hired painters in the mainland to paint oil paintings to export. The business was booming. From then on, painters all over the country came here to paint. The local government noticed the new culture industry and gave it strong national support. Along with the improvement of the environment and the perfect oil painting market, Dafen village attracts more and more painters, which makes the atmosphere of art in Dafen become more and more strong. Everyday, many businessmen and visitors home and abroad come here to wholesale and purchase oil paintings. Now, Dafen village becomes an oil painting village worthy of the name and builds a good brand in the international market.
